Munich, Dresden and Berlin

Mayors of six districts and a Mayor from Gwangju were invited by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty to visit Munich, Dresden and Berlin in order to acquire information and knowledge about the financial situation, and especially about solutions to overcome debt in Germany’s municipalities.

Berlin

A group of leading activists from Israel Chofshit traveled to Germany with the intention of finding new impulses for their work in Israel. During the course of conversations held with representatives from the religious communities, politics, the Judicial System and from initiatives within the civil society, they came to understand the existing special relationship between the Church and the State in Germany, compared to other models in the western world.

Karlsruhe, Cologne and Berlin

A delegation conformed by magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice of Thailand traveled to Germany on a study trip concerning the subject of assurance and restriction of the individual rights to freedom in the core of a parliamentary democracy. The conversations that were held regarding the right of assembly and the principle of ex-officio investigation were relevant.

Istanbul, Turkey

Within the 64th General Assembly of the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY) in Istanbul (Turkey) the Brazilian Alumnus of the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, João Victor Guedes, was re-elected during the biannual elections for Treasurer of IFLRY with 87 votes pro and one abstention, being the first person to go for a second term since the position was created in 2007.

Gummersbach

Twenty participants – experts, politicians, educationalists and NGO activists – from all parts of the globe, from Argentina to Burma and from Russia to South Africa attended the fourth IAF workshop on the importance of private property for free societies, social and economic stability and development, Gummersbach, 12–19 November 2011.

Ghanaian liberals on study trip to Brussels and Berlin

How to secure election victories and why companions are helpful at this: these were the topics for liberal members of the Ghanaian opposition party „New Patriotic Party “(NPP) during a study trip to Brussels and Berlin. Seven members of the liberal group „G11 “within the NPP discussed with experts from political parties, parliaments and institutions. 

Saxony and Berlin

After the 2009 elections and the new 2010 elections, the Liberal Party of Moldova joined the democratic governmental coalition “Alliance for the European Integration” for the second time. A good reason for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom to keep on enhancing its support.

Saxony and Berlin

In Germany, a Freedom of Information Law exists since 2005. However, compared to the South Asian area, it is hardly benefited from. This was confirmed by the participants of a delegation from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka during a visit program to Saxony and Berlin. All participants, jurists and collaborators from non-governmental organizations, actively contribute to the introduction and implementation of Freedom Information Laws in their respective countries.

Malawi

From 3 – 10 September the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) held its 2011 course on Political Leadership in Gummersbach. 22 Political leaders from all around the world gathered to discuss challenges and tools of modern political leadership – among them 7 parliamentarians. One of them was Salim Bagus, a leading politician of Malawi’s oppositionary People’s Party and the international officer of the Forum for Democratic Devolution.

New Delhi, India

The members of India FNF Alumni Network (IFAN) took the initiative to organize IAF replication workshop on ‘Coalition Building & Strategic Partnership’ in New Delhi on 12 August 2011. The participants of the workshop were from the FNF New Delhi partner organization and its coalition partners.

Bonn

For three days, at the Global Media Forum of the Deutsche Welle (DW) in Bonn, more than one thousand communication media representatives as well as politics, economics and cultural representatives exchanged views about the media's role in Human Rights protection and guarantee in a globalized world.

Berlin and Brandenburg

Twelve high-ranking decision makers from Kirkuk, Iraq visited Germany on a study tour organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty (FNF). During their six-day visit, the Iraqi guests studied the political structure, administration and public service delivery in the German province of Brandenburg: from the local to the provincial to the federal level.


Lahore, Pakistan

In October 2010 the Pakistani Alumni of the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) gathered in Lahore to strengthen their ownership of their network: Freedom Gate Pakistan (FGP). With Open Space Technology, World Café and the Bus Stoip of Skills new methods were introduced in Pakistan. Two books were launched as well as the Opera Fidelio by Ludwig van Beethoven screened.

South Africa

Cape Town- South Africa enters the final days of campaigning ahead of the local government elections on Wednesday, 18 May 2011. The Independent Electoral Commission has reported that 55,864 candidates and 121 electoral parties will be contesting for seats in metropolitan councils, local councils and district councils.

After the death of Osama Bin Laden

The alleged master mind of 9/11 attacks on US, Bin Laden, is dead. The search and kill operation, named "Geranimo" was executed by a team of US seals, who are specialized in conducting similar operations. The operation was termed a victory for US, as its decade long struggle against the Al-Qaeda leadership finally reaped fruit. American people got thrilled by this achievement and celebrated the day with joy.

IAF Seminar on "Coalition Building and Strategic Partnership"

Should liberals stick to principles and preserve their identity even when this means waiving a chance to exert power, for instance in a government position? This was one of the key questions discussed by a group of 22 participants from political parties and the civil society sector throughout the world.

Berlin

To strengthen liberal political parties and their respective youth organizations is a primary strategic objective of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty. The Arab World is no exception and in mid-April, a delegation comprising eight leading youth representatives of the Lebanese Future Movement visited Germany upon the invitation of the foundation to participate in a study tour on “Strategies for Successful Political Youth Work”.
